Science Week 2026
Calling all budding scientists! British Science Week 2026 will take place Monday 9th – Friday 13th March, in school. The theme for this year is ‘Curiosity – What’s your question?’. This theme is all about getting you thinking about what you most want to know about the world, and how you could find out. Several activities have been planned to engage pupils in science, both in and outside of school.
Moorlands Science Fair
We will be holding a Science Fair, to mark the event, on Friday 13 th March 2026 in the school hall.
We would love you to create a presentation, poster or model linked to the theme of ‘Curiosity –Asking and answering questions about the world around us.’ As focus, you could think about …
Plants – Why do some trees lose their leaves and some don’t? Can you grow plants without soil?
Animals – Can all birds fly? What animals don’t have skeletons? Why are my teeth different
shapes and sizes?
Earth and Space – What would happen if the Earth stopped turning? Could humans live on any
other planet in our solar system? How does a shadow change during the day? How can we
protect our planet from climate change?
Technology - Curiosity about how technology works. The role of robots or AI – can they replace
humans?
Health and medicine - Curiosity about health and medicine. Which type of exercise increases your
heart rate the most? What is a healthy, balanced diet? Why do we sneeze when we have a cold?
You can be curious about anything!
Each entrant will receive a certificate and a small prize. There will be three additional prizes for the most informative / creative projects. *Projects or displays created will be presented on a tabletop during the Science Fair and therefore will need to be free-standing or able to lie flat.
Work completed at home for the Science Fair should be brought into school, to your child’s
classroom, on the morning of Friday 13th March.
See the links at the bottom of the page for further ideas.
